About Elvington
The village of Elvington lies to the south east of York on the west bank of the River Derwent.
Elvington is well known for its air museum which lies on what was originally the airfield of RAF Elvington. The Yorkshire Air Museum opened to the public on the airfield on 31st May 1986.
The village often plays host to a popular air show, and a number of other events take place both at the museum and on the airfield, including numerous driving and sports activities.
The village hit the headlines when Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was involved in a high speed accident at the airfield.
As well as a thriving residential community, the village has a number of businesses and industries, a medical practice, a primary school and a church.
